An Apprenticeship means you work and get paid while you learn an industry skill.  It’s a real job with real training, meaning you gain hands-on work experience as well as a formal qualification.  As an apprentice you learn ‘on-the-job’, which may mean that you go to college on day release or undertake all of your training at work – it varies depending on your role and your employer.

There are three levels of apprenticeship in total and the level of apprenticeship you do will depend on previous qualifications and experience and the type of industry you will work in.

  • Level 2 – Intermediate Apprenticeship (equivalent to GCSEs)

  • Level 3 – Advanced Apprenticeship (equivalent to A-Levels)

  • Level 4 – Higher Apprenticeship

Most Apprenticeships take between one and four years to complete, following which you can go on to enjoy a great career and consider progressing onto an Advanced or Higher apprenticeship.

To be eligible for an Apprenticeship you must either be employed on a full-time contract by an employer willing to support your training or have an offer of employment as an apprentice.
